Digital Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (DAKIS)

Digitization and field robotics-centred project

Description

Digital Agricultural Knowledge and Information System (DAKIS) is a digital agricultural research and innovation project designed to integrate ecosystem services, biodiversity, and resource efficiency into agricultural decision making. The project develops and tests digital platforms that combine real-time data from sensors, drones, satellites and other sources with models and tools for planning and managing sustainable agrisystems. DAKIS fosters cooperation between farmers advisors' researchers and policymakers for sustainable agricultural transformation.

Technology

  • Remote sensing
  • Drone
  • Sensor
  • Robotics
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Big data
  • GIS
  • Cloud
  • Desktop/web-based application

The DAKIS technology combines remote sensing drones, sensors, robotics, cloud-based analytics, and GIS modelling with artificial intelligence to analyse multi source data. The system supports decision support tools for simulation forecasting and scenario analysis tailored to local site conditions.

Target

  • Academia and research institutions
  • Public sector
  • Agriculture cooperatives
  • Farm advisors
  • Private sector
  • Medium size farms
  • Large size farms

DAKIS targets farmers, advisors, researchers, and rural development stakeholders who require integrated data-driven tools for sustainable landscape and crop management.

Business model

  • Donor support

The project is financed through public research funding under the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and provides research outputs and prototype tools as public goods.

Impact

DAKIS aims to improve sustainability planning by enabling data-driven decisions that balance production, economic viability, biodiversity, and ecosystem services. The project intends to strengthen innovation capacity, disseminate information on digitalization, and support long-term sustainable agricultural systems that will be displayed in the form of a prototype DAKIS system.
