eKontingente
Web platform managing agricultural import tariff quotas
DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
eKontingente is a web-based platform operated by the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) for managing general import permits and tariff quota shares for agricultural products. The platform is used in Switzerland by authorized importers and competent authorities to apply for permits, participate in quota-share auctions, request or transfer quota shares, and submit required declarations under different allocation procedures.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
eKontingente is an online application accessed via a federal portal with secure authentication. The app supports guided digital workflows for permit applications, auction bidding and quota-share management, and exchanges relevant data with FOAG back-end systems and customs applications to keep quota balances and processing status up to date.
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
eKontingente targets private sector importers and holders of general import permits who trade in agricultural products, public-sector institutions, including cantonal offices, inspection bodies and federal agencies.
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
eKontingente is a fully publicly funded digital government service with operation and maintenance financed through the Federal Office for Agriculture’s regular budget.
ImpactThe observed or intended effects of the initiative.
eKontingente aims to improve transparency and efficiency in administering agricultural tariff quotas by providing a single digital platform. The solution helps distribute limited import volumes among many actors through rule-based procedures and reduces administrative burden for FOAG, customs authorities and companies by digitizing processes and integrating with customs and financial IT systems.
