Description
Lolazor village, located in the Hisor mountains near Dushanbe, is one of the first pilot settlements in FAO’s Digital Villages Initiative (DVI), and more specifically, the “Piloting Digital Villages in Central Asia” project (FVC/GLO/171/MUL), under which a range of digital and non-digital initiatives have been implemented to enhance community capacity, to foster agri-entrepreneurship and to promote the development of agritourism.
Technology
Among the various initiatives applied, the community received training in digital literacy, along with masterclasses in social media marketing and mobile photography. The participants were also involved in the establishment of a demonstration farm in Tajik Agrarian University, where they observed the installation of smart irrigation systems and received training on the use of IRRIGOPTIMAL technologies. Around 10 villagers also participated in village twinning activities with Novkent village (Uzbekistan), under which they visited smart greenhouses and engaged in an exchange of experiences, and a communication channel was set up on Telegram to facilitate further interactions.
Target
The project participants included members of the Lolazor community, including the village head, a youth leader, women and a person with disabilities.
Impact
Such initiatives enhance digital literacy, promote agri-entrepreneurship, foster agritourism and promote the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, ultimately improving the community's economic resilience and development.
