Novada Garsa
Informational catalogue and e-market of Latvian farms and small food producers
Description
Novada Garsa is an e-catalogue of Latvian farms and small food producers that features an e-market for the sale of local Latvian products, supporting local agricultural and fishery producers, processors and home producers, targeting the strengthening public interest in Latvian food products. The origins of Novada Garsa can be traced back to 2016, when 100 small food producers and home producers, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, came together at Riga Food Exhibition to present the products produced and grown in their region.
Technology
Using the Novada Garsa business-to-customer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) solution, consumers can search for producers by location, quality scheme, product range and additional services, and can make online purchases of fresh fruit and vegetables and packed food. The system creates a QR code for each food producer that can be exhibited when the producer trades at a local market and on the product label as a marketing and food traceability instrument.
Target
The solution benefits both the producers and consumers of food. According to the Novada Garsa website, as of June 2024, 778 producers were registered in the catalogue along with almost 11 000 users.
Business model
The solution connects food producers with consumers. Registration, posting information and listings in the directory are free. The use of the e-market is also currently free for manufacturers, although it is necessary to enter into a cooperation agreement for the use of the e-market. There is no contractual obligation to post information in the directory.
Impact
An informational catalogue and e-market for Latvian farms and small food producers can enhance market access, promote sustainable local food systems, support rural economic development, educate consumers and boost food security by connecting producers directly with consumers.
