Soil Heroes Foundation

Non‑profit initiative verifying regenerative agriculture successes

Description

Soil Heroes Foundation is a non-profit organisation committed to accelerating the transition to regenerative agriculture by trialing and demonstrating regenerative farming practices on working farms, documenting ecological and agronomic outcomes, and sharing their findings publicly. The initiative operates practical on-farm trials (on the Klompe Farm), combining ecological practices such as composting, cover cropping, biodiversity strips, no-till, organic fertilisers with scientific monitoring of soil, water, biodiversity and crop performance. The verification and modern farm approach of the initiative builds evidence that regenerative agriculture is ecologically viable, economically feasible, and beneficial for climate, biodiversity, and food systems.

Technology

  • Website
  • Online community

The organization supports and empowers regenerative agriculture by providing proof of practice on working farms. Additionally, it operates primarily through a web-based platform that disseminates educational content, stories, and resources related to soil health and sustainable land management. Online communication tools are used to support outreach, learning, and community engagement activities.

Target

  • Smallholder farmers
  • Medium size farms
  • Public sector
  • Private sector
  • Rural communities

Soil Heroes Foundation assists all types of farmers, agricultural enterprises and landowners interested in transitioning to regenerative agriculture, as well as research institutions, civil-society organisations, environmental stakeholders, policymakers and consumers interested in sustainable food systems.

Business model

  • Donor support

The project is funded through donations, support from individual donors, foundations and organisations committed to sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient food systems. The foundation does not operate for profit; it relies on grant/donation-based financing to support its research, demonstration projects and outreach activities.

Impact

According to reports available online, Soil Heroes Foundation maintains 360 hectares of farms that have been converted to regenerative management. It also supported business cases such as initiatives in making compost in large quantities, and a collaborative output called Guidebook for Farmers was created together with Klompe Farm.
