Description
AgriAcademy is a freely accessible digital education app designed for agribusinesses in Ukraine. Launched by the EBRD in December 2022, its primary goal is to enhance access to knowledge and technology for small- and medium-sized agricultural enterprises, addressing the shortage of professional skills in agribusiness. The app is offering 18 specialized courses as of November 2023, covering a wide range of topics, from crop production and water management to livestock management and the use of drones. These online courses are designed based on Master’s degree programmes at leading agricultural universities, and have been adapted to suit the specific needs of Ukrainian agribusinesses. Upon the successful completion of their training, the participants receive a certificate. The app also features webinars, blog posts and consultations, further supporting the learning experience.
Technology
AgriAcademy is an online application that offers online courses through a learning management system (LMS) and makes use of diverse multimedia elements (video lectures, quizzes, etc.). The app is designed with mobile accessibility in mind, allowing users to learn using various devices.
Target
AgriAcademy is designed specifically for employees in Ukraine's agribusiness sector, and aims to provide training for a minimum of 10 000 people working in the agriculture and food sectors. The app caters to the needs of the employees of small-, medium- and large-sized agricultural companies, as well as students and lecturers in agricultural universities. The online courses are provided in Ukrainian.
Business model
AgriAcademy offers unlimited free access to its knowledge products. The initiative is funded by the EBRD’s Ukraine Stabilisation and Sustainable Growth Multi-Donor Account and implemented in partnership with universities and other institutions.
Impact
Amidst the enduring challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine, AgriAcademy can enhance the skills and knowledge base of Ukraine's agribusiness sector and positively influence agricultural practices. By offering free access to a variety of courses, the app serves as a valuable tool in support of adaptation and resilience in the face of unprecedented circumstances.
