Description
agroNET offers farmers a comprehensive suite of tools tailored to meet their specific needs. agroNET provides pre-packaged configurations for vineyard owners, crop producers, and poultry farmers, among others, designed to optimize their farming operations. Its specific packages optimize irrigation, control crop diseases, leverage satellite imagery for crop analysis, and facilitate livestock production through environmental monitoring, computer vision weight estimation, and AI-based wellness analysis, promoting transparency in the food supply chain. AgroNET includes such components as the Agriculture Information Model (AIM) for semantic interoperability, the DEMETER Enabler Hub (DEH) for centralized resource cataloguing, and the Stakeholders Open Collaboration Space (SOCS) for cooperative work among stakeholders. The app also provides tailored packages to meet specific needs, including vineyard farming, silo management, arable crop management, greenhouse management, asset monitoring, feed storage management, poultry farm management, feed mixture optimization, and mobile solar generation for cleaner energy in agriculture. agroNET can be used with other DunavNET tools, such as its Product Passport, agroNET, and fleetNET which potentially can improve transparency in the supply chain.
Technology
AgroNET is an online desk-based application and mobile app available for iOS and Android devices. The mobile app can be used in combination with the desk-based app and hardware devices including sensors and weather monitoring stations. The app has the capacity to integrate data from various sensors that can be installed by the company; data loggers with multiple communication options; data analytics modules; an integrated farm dashboard; and a secure, scalable and reliable cloud environment. The app relies on a combination of new technologies (sensors, IoT and ML) and domain expertise to provide recommendations and guidance tailored to a specific crop, its vegetation state and the weather conditions. The data is sent via the cloud to the company’s database and combined with expert advice, the app also acts as an agronomy consultant providing adequate recommendations, notifications and alerts whenever an important event is detected, or a new phase starts. The IoT and ML app acts as a farm data interoperability hub, using specific data analytics algorithms. The collected data and activities are logged and made available to other actors in the supply chain via the Cloud if other apps from the company, such as fleetNET, are connected.
Target
The main users of the application are farmers engaged in livestock or crop production, and is being extended to provide functionalities required by food processing, food safety and supply chain stakeholders, thus covering the complete journey from farm to fork. The app and app are available in English. The app has been downloaded more than 1000 times, and the app is currently in use in vineyards, poultry farms and arable crop farms, including those producing apples and potatoes.
Business model
The services can be accessed through a regular subscription model, and a demo mode of AgroNET is available for first-time users, after which price varies depending on the installed hardware, such as weather systems and sensors, and special modules, such as those related to irrigation or vineyard monitoring.
Impact
agroNET has the potential to improve farm management, disease prediction and overall productivity, and can improve overall supply chain transparency when used in combination with other DunavNET tools. In a forecast modelling study of Botrytis cinerea (a fungus that attacks wine grapes) published in the Journal of Networking and Network Applications (2022), agroNET was able to reduce the use of pesticides in grape production by up to 20 percent (DOI:10.33969/J-NaNA.2022.020305)
