Assalom Agro

Description
Assalom Agro was an online app that facilitated the access of farmers to domestic and foreign markets, and agricultural knowledge and advisory services. Assalom Agro could be used to access several databases, including those listing logistical, packaging and agro-consultancy service providers for exports along with their contact details, as well as databases of plant diseases, weeds, pests and pesticides, as well as chemical treatments, with detailed descriptions, photos and recommendations. The initiative allowed access to a comprehensive set of meteorological information on an interactive map, including the results of a soil analysis facilitated by Assalom Agro in collaboration with local laboratories.
Technology
Assalom agro was a web-based application that could be accessed online via any browser or through iOS or Android mobile apps, in three languages: English, Uzbek and Russian. Certain services, such as agricultural consultancy, were available only upon registration with an Uzbek phone number. As of February 2023, the database listed 693 diseases, 1655 weeds, 204 pests and some 696 chemical products. The provided recommendations were developed in collaboration with national and international specialists. Around 15 laboratories in Uzbekistan had access to an adjacent software, Uzagrolab, where they could upload the results of their soil analyses (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), which were then displayed on the map. Farm-based agrometeorological stations could be integrated into the app to support more precise forecasts. The Field Journal was developed based on FAO and Global GAP criteria.
Target
As of February 2023, around 30 000 farmers had connected to the app, 30 percent of whom could be considered active users. The most popular service was the ePhyto certification. The mobile app achieved 1000 downloads from Google Play Store.
Business model
As of February 2023, the app was free to use, while services such as soil analyses or ePhyto certification were charged separately by the authoritative bodies.
Impact
Assalom Agro is no longer operational. The initiative aimed to provide farmers with access to market and agricultural knowledge and advice, as well as a range of databases and tools that could support the management of pests and diseases, and to enable access to government services.
