Carbon Solutions
Carbon credit enrollment and MRV service for farms
DescriptionOverview of the initiative and its approach.
Corteva Carbon Solutions is a web‑based carbon credit enrollment and measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) service designed to help farms generate third‑party certified carbon credits from adopting cover crops and reduced tillage, with payments based on verified outcomes that support farm income and climate‑positive agriculture. Corteva Carbon Solutions is reported to provide farmer onboarding, eligibility checks and credit certification via Climate Action Reserve standards and access to buyer networks through Indigo, contributing to rural development and climate mitigation.
TechnologyTechnology used by the initiative.
The initiative uses Corteva’s Granular Insights digital tool for recording field boundaries and management practices and for sharing required datasets. Participant data are shared with Indigo Ag and the Climate Action Reserve to quantify and certify carbon credits, with optional soil sampling on selected fields.
TargetUsers, groups, or communities targeted by the initiative.
The initiative targets crop producers implementing eligible practice changes and farm advisors supporting practice adoption. Participation requires provision of historical and current field management data, enabling enrolled farmers to access carbon credit revenues linked to verified outcomes.
Business modelHow the initiative delivers and sustains its value.
The initiative operates as an outcome-based carbon market programme. Farmers participate without upfront fees and receive payments linked to the generation of independently verified carbon credits resulting from the adoption of eligible soil health practices. Corteva Agriscience covers programme development, measurement, reporting and verification costs and collaborates with third-party partners to certify and commercialize credits. Revenue is generated through the sale of verified carbon credits to downstream buyers, while participating farmers receive payments as a share of the value generated. This model enables farmers to access new revenue streams without direct service fees, while supporting climate mitigation outcomes aligned with voluntary carbon markets and Scope 3 emission reduction objectives.
ImpactThe observed or intended effects of the initiative.
Corteva Carbon Solutions has completed an initial round of payments to U.S. farmers participating in the 2021 program, covering over 25 000 acres, and has expanded access with collaborators to scale certified outcomes; the approach supports soil health practices, potential Scope 3 reductions for agri‑food buyers, and new revenue streams for farms.
