Description
FieldView is a digital agriculture platform that works in integration with a companion plug-in diagnostic sensor, allowing farmers tools to collect, store and analyse data from the field. The platform facilitates field mapping, yield monitoring, variable rate seeding and nitrogen monitoring, etc., and supports farmers in making data-driven decisions, allowing them to optimize their operations, increase efficiency and improve yields.
Technology
The system has two parts, the FieldView Drive device and the accompanying software. The FieldView Drive is the sensor component of the FieldView system, which is plugged into a piece of the farmer’s equipment, such as a tractor or combine harvester, and collects real-time data about the field operations. The acquired data can include such information as seed planting speed, seed population and yield, and FieldView Drive then wirelessly transmits the data to the FieldView platform, where farmers can analyse it to make informed decisions about their farming practices. The distinctive features of the FieldView system include advanced yield monitoring, precise input applications through the use of variable rate technologies and comprehensive data visualization tools.
Target
FieldView serves a broad spectrum of users, including large-scale commercial farmers, agronomic advisors, input suppliers, and potentially, smallholder farmers. While the exact user numbers are not specified, there are distribution centres in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, the Czechia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Spain, Türkiye, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay, indicating a broad global user base. Efforts to enhance accessibility through partnerships and scalable pricing aim to ensure its relevance across diverse farming communities.
Business model
FieldView operates under a subscription-based business model in which users pay an annual fee to access the platform and its features. Costs vary based on such factors as farm size and the level of functionality required. Climate Corporation generates additional revenues through partnerships with equipment manufacturers and input suppliers. The price of the FieldView Drive system as of May 2024 was USD 399.
Impact
FieldView has been shown to have tangible benefits, providing for increases of up to 6 to 9 bushels/acre in yield, according to Bayer (the parent company of FieldView). It can optimize resource usage, and reduce input costs and environmental impacts. While challenges such as the digital divide and data privacy concerns exist, these can be mitigated through training and support. The company has provided a data privacy notice on its website.
