Description
Crop Maps Ukraine is geospatial platform designed to visualize annual crop distribution and agricultural land use across Ukraine using satellite-derived maps. The platform provides interactive layers showing the location and extent of major crops and fallow land for different years and seasons, allowing users to compare crop structures over time.
Technology
Crop Maps Ukraine is implemented as an interactive web mapping platform built on GIS and web map services. Users can zoom and pan across the country, switch between base maps and annual crop maps, and filter information by year, region and crop type. The platform displays field blocks and agricultural land in different colours by crop, and users can click on map units to see attribute information such as crop class and area. Where permitted, users can also view aggregated statistics and download selected geospatial layers for further analysis.
Target
Crop Maps Ukraine primarily serves central and local government institutions including ministries, cadastral agencies and regional authorities. The platform is also beneficial for international organizations, research institutions, and all sizes of farms.
Business model
Crop Maps Ukraine has been developed within the Supporting Transparent Land Governance in Ukraine programme, financed by the European Union and implemented by the World Bank, project ID P165404, in partnership with Ukrainian public institutions and technical partners. Under this donor support model, Crop Maps Ukraine is publicly free to access.
Impact
Crop Maps Ukraine aims to enhance transparency and evidence-based decision-making and contribute to more efficient resource use and more resilient agricultural systems in Ukraine. Scientific assessments of Ukraine’s satellite-based crop mapping report overall classification accuracies above 90 percent supports planning for food security.
