Internet of Things applied for the efficient auditing of wine certification
Description
E-audit employs the Internet of Things to aid auditors in the inspection of wineries and vineyards. The system ensures that the grape and wine production processes are tracked accurately, that documented processes are correct, and that the information reported for certification aligns with the actual conditions. It certifies wines with Designation of Origin and Geographical Indication, and those stating the grape variety and/or age.
Technology
E-audit leverages the Internet of Things to assist wine certification auditors during both cellar and vineyard inspections, making use of the following technologies: Smartphones, web apps, sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), broadband Internet and digital communications. While carrying out cellar inspections, auditors can create digital reports and synchronize the gathered data with DIONISO – Valoritalia's management software. This allows: 1) Access to stored wine data on Dioniso. 2) Access to the national logbook SIAN's database. The retrieval of sensor data from vats. 3) During vineyard inspections, auditors can identify specific vineyards, access land and vineyard registry details, record sampling activities with geodata.
Target
E-audit's primary users are medium and large-scale wine processors, audit and certification agencies, and public authorities. The system allows access to land and vineyard registries, the DIONISO database and other external data sources, such as those providing weather data and vegetation indexes.
Business model
Valoritalia collaborated with the organizers of the Internet of Food and Farm 2020 project, an initiative targeting the introduction of IoT technologies to the agrifood sector. The EU supported E-audit's development through donor funding. Valoritalia's business model and associated user costs are unspecified.
