European Digital Innovation Hubs Network
Network of one-stop shops supporting the digitalization of companies and public administrations
Description
The European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) Network is a community of tech experts that work together in support of the digital transformation of Europe’s businesses and organizations. Each Digital Innovation Hub (DIH) offers training, digital maturity assessments and innovation support, advising stakeholders in the agri-food sector on the adoption of digital solutions that improve efficiency, sustainability and resilience.
Technology
The EDIHs contribute to the development of agriculture, food and rural communities through the design and promotion of various digital technologies that can meet the needs of the specific DIHs, such as artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, robotics, Internet of things (IoT) and social media. The offered services can be accessed via a website featuring an online catalogue of essential information about the EDIHs. The website also offers a Digital Speed Test that companies can use to assess their digital readiness and map out their journey into the digital age. The website also links to an online academy through which access is provided to a wide range of online training resources for all EDIH network members.
Target
The EDIH Network provides cooperation, training, expert guidance and advisory support to businesses and public administrations in the European Union and in associated countries such as Liechtenstein, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland, North Macedonia and Norway.
Business model
The project is funded jointly by the European Commission, the EU Member States and associated countries. Beneficiaries can access the services of the DIHs or their network free of charge, and can access the e-learning opportunities offered by the EDIH Network in the field of digital agriculture after registering.
Impact
The digital initiatives of the EDIH Network, established in 2024, have already yielded several successes in agriculture, food and rural development. One of the main projects, SmartAgriHubs, is focused on accelerating the digital transformation of the European agri-food sector, for which a network of Digital Innovation Hubs has been created connecting stakeholders, including regional centres, promoting the adoption of digital technologies among farmers. SmartAgriHubs hosts over 28 flagship innovations and practical digital solutions, such as IoT integration, targeting improvements in agricultural productivity and sustainability, with the potential to contribute to multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
