Farm record-keeping app
Description
Farm Records is a record-keeping app that has been designed to help farmers manage their expenses, income and overall profitability. The mobile app supports detailed record-keeping for various aspects of farming, including farm and unit details, investments, harvests and labour usage. It contains features for tracking both inflows (sales) and outflows (expenses), thereby providing a comprehensive overview of the farm's financial health, based either on the Lebanese Pound (LBP) or US Dollar (USD), and allows farmers also to document their home consumption. Farm Records offers reporting capabilities that allow the creation of profit and loss statements for the entire farm, individual units or specific seasons, thus providing enhanced business insights. These reports can be easily saved in PDF format for further analysis or record-keeping.
Technology
Farm Records is an Android mobile application. It stores data locally through the mobile app.
Target
The main users of Farm Records are the farmers in Lebanon who first participated in the Farm Business School (FBS) initiative in the country. The app has been implemented in nine FBS throughout the country and is readily available on the Google Play Store.
Business model
The mobile app is free to download.
Impact
To date, nine farm business schools have been hosted, in Mhaydthe (Rachaya district, Bekaa), Aley (Aley district, Mount Lebanon), Baakline and Mresti (Chouf district, Mount Lebanon), Boudai (Baalbek District, Baalbek-Hermel), Karm Chbat, Hrar and Aidamoun (Akkar district, Northern Lebanon) and Jezzine (Jezzine District, South Lebanon). According to FAO, the mobile app has been further developed based on the feedback of the farmers who participated in the pilot FBS. The farmers recognized it as essential for the improvement of their farming activities, to facilitate farmers’ engagement in record keeping activities, and to ensure informed decision-making by leveraging the benefits of digital technologies.
