Description
INSYLO is a decision-making tool for farmers and feed suppliers based on a smart volumetric IoT sensor and software application, and is used to measure the content of silos, facilitating the remote management of stocks and optimizing the production and distribution cycles of animal feed. INSYLO allows users to monitor the content of their silos via their smartphones and to be alerted when stocks are low. The app provides accurate and updated information about the current state of the silos in real time, including the level and weight of content, and the available volume, temperature and humidity inside the silo. The silos are monitored continuously, and all data are stored on the Cloud for future reference. This decision-making tool can give farmers and feed suppliers high-value insights into their daily operations, aiding in the selection of the optimum time to replenish the stocks in each silo, thus minimizing logistics costs.
Technology
INSYLO runs on a smart volumetric IoT sensor that contains a 3D camera with embedded computer vision algorithms that measure the content of the silo. It is powered by solar energy, and Internet connectivity is ensured through a system suitable for rural areas, operating fully independently of the farms’ resources. The proprietary 3D volumetric sensor accurately monitors stock volume (with a <1 percent error margin) and quality (temperature and humidity), generating a 3D map of the inner silo. The Cloud-based Collaborative Smart Feed Logistic app (SFLP), also developed by INSYLO, operates under the “Vendor Managed Inventories” (VMI) principle, in which the supplier of goods is responsible for optimizing the inventory of a distributor. When stocks fall below a set level, INSYLO sends a message via email or smartphone to the necessary people, facilitating the submission of a restocking order with a simple click. The IoT collects volume and environmental data from the silos, accesses historical data on farms and suppliers from the Enterprise Data Storage System (EDSS), processes it through Machine Learning (ML)/Optimization Model algorithms, and generates a Digital Twin System (DTS) that creates a digital representation of the current situation. Isolated rural areas can access the SFLP thanks to the 6lowPAN wireless network, meaning that remote farms do not need an Internet connection for sensor connectivity.
Target
INSYLO can be of particular interest to stockbreeders and feed suppliers.
Impact
INSYLO facilitates the management of stock levels in silos via a smartphone, and provides notifications when stocks are low, eliminating the need for manual inspections. INSYLO thus facilitates the remote management of stocks in the silos of livestock farms, and the optimisation of the animal feed production and distribution cycles. INSYLO also assists food suppliers by automatically sharing stock information with their customers and in the processing of restocking orders. According to the company's website, INSYLO can provide savings of up to EUR 500 per silo per year in labour and transport costs, while eliminating the risks associated with silo inspections and contributing to the environment by reducing CO2 transport emissions by up to 25 percent. The key benefit of INSYLO is its ability to optimize logistics and production by providing previously unknown demand variables in the form of accurate live data and predictive forecasting. Furthermore, the zero-maintenance sensors reduce the risk of associated workplace accidents, improving the quality of life of farmers, and allowing them to focus on their core activities.
