E-commerce and market prices information portal for dried fruits
Description
MAPEST is an e-commerce information portal for the dissemination of the market prices of dried fruits. The portal was launched by the International Association of Producers and Exporters of Agricultural Products of Tajikistan with the goal of uniting the Republic’s processing enterprises and farmers. The e-commerce promotes the interaction of all actors in the dried fruit supply chain, including farmers, processors, exporters and distributors, and also serves as a source of information on agrotechnology and agronomy, covering such topics as apricot types, ploughing and the available processing technologies. Furthermore, tractor services for production are offered on the platorm, and laboratory services for processing and food quality assurance activities.
Technology
The Association's website features "Market prices" and "E-commerce" tabs. The "Market prices" section lists a selection of dried fruits, berries and nuts alongside their nutritional values and processing methodology, as well as their market prices in several cities in Tajikistan. The source of the pricing information is unknown. The "E-commerce" section has subsections for Dried fruits, Nuts, Agricultural machinery, Equipment, Land and agricultural real estate, Services, Agricultural products, Raw materials, Processed products, Feed for farming animals and birds, Agrochemistry, Containers and packaging, among others. As of November 2022, however the e-commerce is not functioning, as only two products have been listed in the Marketplace, dating back to 2021, while none of the other products or services categories contain any listings. The e-commerce also has an “Agrotechnology” tab through which users can access information on agronomy, technology, and laboratories, and while this tab also has a link to consulting services, no such service is currently available. The e-commerce is available in Russian, though some articles are in Tajik.
Target
MAPEST targets producers and buyers of dried fruits, as well as those involved in their processing and distribution.
Business model
The e-commerce is free to use for farmers, and posting on the e-commerce e-commerce is free of charge. Visitors to the portal can also make posts without needing to register, and no registration is required to view the market listings. The cost of laboratory access and access to tractors is unknown.
Impact
MAPEST facilitates easy access to the market prices of dried fruit, berries and nuts, making it easier for processors and farmers in Tajikistan to keep up to date with the products they want to buy or sell. The portal supports the maintenance of a competitive market, and ensures farmers get a fair price for their produce. The e-commerce also contributes to production by providing information on dried fruit cultivation and facilitating access to tractor equipment. Furthermore, farmers can make use of the MAPEST laboratory to ensure better quality dried fruit and to avoid quality and supply chain issues, thus contributing to more nutritious and higher quality dried fruits on the market. The e-commerce seeks to unite processing enterprises and farmers in the Republic of Tajikistan by forming a connection between all those involved in the dried fruit supply chain, allowing them to identify and capitalize on the provided opportunities to promote their products and services.
