OAD
Tool aiding the determination of appropriate online marketing platforms
Description
The Decision Support tool (OAD) helps producers select the optimum digital application for their food supply chain needs. The open-source OAD lists 38 digital software, including desktop and web-based platforms, and aids the user in making selections that best suit their needs based on their specified criteria, the type of platform used and the services they require.
Technology
The OAD web app offers a reading grid to agricultural producers or producer groups considering using digital tools to sell their products. The app contains a system of filters that can be filled in according to the user’s constraints and needs, including: 1) type of platform; 2) platform cost; 3) customer type; 4) type of booking system; 5) type of traded products; 6) selling modality; 7) payment modality; 8) delivery services; 9) quality labels in the supply chain; 10) governance; and 11) ownership. The OAD helps producers create their own stores, order pages or marketplaces.
Target
The main users are food producers, but also consumer groups, cooperatives, logistic operators and consumers. The OAD aids producers (individuals or collectives) in the online marketing of their products through a marketplace (in a facilitator role) or in the creation of their own online stores.
Business model
Use of this resource is free of charge.
Impact
The tool allows producers to overcome information asymmetries when comparing and selecting the best digital tools to meet their short/local food supply chain needs, and ultimately to reach the consumer base. Another advantage of the tool lies in its analysis and comparison of numerous variables in the existing digital tools, thus aiding in the design of future tools.
