Description

Veta is an e-learning platform providing informal education in the field of integrated plant protection at a professional level. The platform hosts an electronic version of the Integrated Plant Protection Professional Programme, which is recognized by the Kutaisi Vocational College. Upon completion of the programme, users receive a certificate and, if desired, can obtain official recognition of their knowledge through the college.

Technology

  • Desktop/web-based application

Veta is an e-learning platform allowing access to a series of videos and text-based content related to the Integrated Plant Protection Programme. The lectures hosted on the platform are sequentially numbered, with a specified minimum time for each lecture. Users must watch each lecture in full before advancing to the next one, and after each lecture has been attended the user can take a test based on the lecture materials. To pass the test, users must achieve a minimum competency threshold of 70 percent, and upon successful completion, will automatically receive an electronic certificate via email sent to the address provided during registration.

Target

  • Academia and research institutions
  • Farm advisors

The users of Veta are primarily individuals seeking informal education in integrated plant protection, including professionals in the agricultural sector, such as plant protection specialists, farmers and agricultural technicians seeking to enhance their knowledge and skills in plant protection practices. Furthermore, students or individuals seeking certification in the field may also use the platform to gain recognized qualifications.

Business model

  • Donor support
  • Fully free

The courses are accessible free of charge through the platform, which was developed under a project initiated by the Agricultural Development Association that was supported financially by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Impact

Veta provides access to professional-level agricultural education without requiring attendance to a formal institution. The platform's recognition by Kutaisi Vocational College adds credibility to the certification process, offering users official validation of their knowledge. This can enhance the professional prospects of users and contributes to the development of a more skilled agricultural workforce in Georgia.
